Walking

Blairgowrie has a number of way marked walks to suit walkers of ages and levels of ability. The Cateran Trail , a 64 mile circular marked trail, passes through Blairgowrie, Strathardle, Glenshee, Alyth and Glenisla. Individual sections are popular for short walks. For the real enthusiast, the area boasts 12 Munros.

Fishing

All types of fishing available within an hour of Blairgowrie; from the mighty River Tay, Ericht and Isla to wild and stocked Loch fishing. Permits and extensive information available from local tackle shops, Crockhart & Son and Kate Flemings. www.fishpal.com/visitscotland

Golfing

With over 100 courses in Perthshire, Angusand Dundeewe have a true golfer's paradise on our doorstep. Local clubs at Alyth, Strathmore and Blairgowrie or try Britain 's highest 9 hole course at Dalmunzie Hotel in Glenshee. The Championship courses of St Andrewsand Carnoustie and the world famous Gleneagles resort are all only an hour away. In summer at Cairnwell Mountain Sports enjoy activities from mountain biking and archery to canyoning and water abseiling Enjoy an indoor climbing wall at the Compass Christian Centre . Based at Ballinluig Nae limits provide over 14 adventure activities from white water rafting to quads and sphereing. Take to the skies in a micro light and see Perthshire from the air, an exhilarating bird's eye view of our beautiful county with the help of Pegasus Flight School based at Balado, near Kinross.

Shopping

Blairgowrie is fortunate to be home to many independent shops offering a wide selection for the visitor. It can also boast award winning Irvine the butchers , a Spink's fish shop , and a farm shop. High Street names help to widen the selection and make Blairgowriean ideal small shopping town. On the riverside you will find Roy Sim antiques, in the High Street Piob Mhor, highland dress makes of distinction and Scotcrest in Reform Street manufacturers of original wood carver plaques hand made on the premises orders can be made for any clan or family a truly Scottish gift to remind you of your stay here. The City of Perth offers a choice of High Street names and it's very own department store McEwen's, this is one of many independent traders and specialty shops which gives Perth its distinct character and makes it such a satisfying shopping experience. Dundee offers many more High Street names in the Overgate and Wellgate shopping centres, and designer outlets at the City Quay on the waterfront. Travel north on the A9 and visit Scotland's most prestigious country store, the House of Bruar by Blair Atholl boasts some of Scotland's finest produce, clothing and rural artwork.

Retuning home to Blairgowrie after a hard day touring you make use our fully equipped lodges to make a special dinner from all of the world class produce that Perthshire and Angus has to offer. There are Farmer's markets weekly in many local towns including Blairgowrie (4 th Sat each month April-Oct), Perth (1 st sat each Month all year), Forfar (2 nd Sat month 2 nd Sat each Month all year). The area also boasts many excellent Farm shops including Blairgowrie Farm Shop; Ballathie Good Food Coy ; and Menzies of Dunkeld . We are also very fortunate to have the famous McDonald's Cheese Shop just 2 minutes walk up the road, it has specialised in cheese for over 40 years and carries a large selection of cheeses from many different countries also deli items, local honey and local ice cream. ‘Food To Go’ all cooked to order including our renowned Swiss Cheese toasties, filled rolls, paninis, tea & coffee and homebakes using our own chickens’ eggs, plus seasonal local strawberries n’ice cream and seasonal local fruit n’ice cream milk shakes.

If you want to stay in and not cook both Blairgowrieand Rattray can offer a wide choice of ‘takeaways' from Chinese to Indian, traditional fish and chips to pizza.
